Links Pallette Causing MAJOR issues

Hi Everybody!

What should have probably been my FIRST place to turn when this issue started occuring, has somehow turned into the last place I have come for answers.

With that said, hello! Please help me!

Currently ailing me is my LINKS PALETTE.

After a long day of prepping a file for some flexo plates (today, for example, I have been working on the same file for upwards of 8 hours, attempting to sandwich 4 different designs into a neat & tidy AI file), my computer tends to get nauseous. Illustrator crashes, and I hope that I've saved my file recently enough that I don't have to go back and re-do a ton of work. Of course, with my fingers perpetually command+s-ing, my file is fine, in the same state it was before my Illustrator hiccup. Or is it?

Glancing over the file, I realize that the majority of my links are missing. Upon further inspection, I realize that they are not just missing, they are now "blank". And there are now many copies of them, also "blank". Some are left intact, some multiplied one on top of another, and others left to whatever this new "blank" thing is. Totally arbitrary, extremely annoying, and in the flexographic industry, extremely dangerous. The last thing I need is for a file to go to press missing an image! As an operator, it'll be MY head that rolls.

Currently some of my co-workers are experiencing the same phenomenon, but until today, were a bit leery about admitting to it for fear that it was operator error. Other co-wokers are not experiencing this at all, and are even capable of opening the same files without seeing a disasterous links panel.

Please see the below screen shot. I haven't the slightest.

there should only be like 1 or 2 of each of those links.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
