Upgrading PC for CS6

Hello,

First of all, thanks to all out there who are reading this!  I'm new to the forum, and I have been reading a fair bit from others who are upgrading but I have not found all the answers. So, here is my issue:

I have used Production Suite CS2 for several years, but it is way out of date and unable at all to cope with the AVCHD footage from my new camera.  I'm currently in the first stages of a documentary film on kayaking, so, it is time to upgrade the machine and then probably do on online subsciption to Premiere and Possible After Effects.  My old Production Suite I'll keep on the old PC for Photoshop and Audition.

I read all the tech specs, but I am still unclear on the graphics cards and sound cards.

In visting my local computer shop here in Christchurch NZ, he came up with an option that is within my budget.  Does this sound reasonable?  They mainly cater to gamers, but the basic package they offer is what I have pasted below with a few modifications. My pc would have 16gb ram and a less blingy case :-)

I showed him the list of supported cards which included the GTX285 through to 580.  So, what is the situation with the newer cards?  Do they need a hack?  How do they perform?  The computer guy suggested I might be able to use a GTX660 which would save me a few hundred dollars. I'm assuming I do not need to spend the $$$ on a Quadro card?  I'm not very knowlegable about this kind of thing, so any thoughts would be most appreciated.

The tech specs also mention a "ASIO protocol or Microsoft WGM/MME" sound card.  Does this mean the basic sound card will not work, or just that I will not be able to do advanced sound work (eg surround sound)?

Finally, does anyone have any thoughts on Windows 7 versus 8?  I'm inclined to go with 8, but I'd appreciate some feedback.

Thank you very much again for your assistance.

Regards,

Bill
